More local small-business owners embracing Facebook, Twitter to drum up business

Pamela Womble is ready to embrace Facebook and Twitter — not to reconnect with old friends but to help promote her 50-seat Caribbean restaurant in Ocean City.
But Womble, 55, who opened 701 Mosaic in 2008 with her husband, Herb Allwood, 62, is grappling with just how to do that.
She does not use Facebook. And she will have to wait to see whether having a social media presence will sell more jerk chicken or shrimp curry at their Fourth Street eatery.
Womble joins a fast growing number of small-business owners embracing social media, but warily.
Among Womble’s apprehensions is the time it would take to post updates to promote a small restaurant that makes its own ginger beer and sorrel juice.
“When you own a small business, you’re everything,” she said. “My husband’s the chef, the plumber, the maintenance guy. I’m the manager, the host, the bookkeeper.”
