Wind Mobile Launches Alcatel Tribe & 2-for-1 BlackBerry Deal » Telecommunications Industry News

On the cusp of its one-year anniversary, Canadian wireless startup Wind Mobile has announced its second Google Android-based smartphone, as well as a new promotion allowing users to get two BlackBerry devices for the price of one.

The new Android device, Alcatel’s Tribe OT-981 features a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, full QWERTY keyboard, 3G data capabilities, and 2-megapixel digital camera, as well as built-in Wi-Fi and GPS. It comes equipped with a Google Android 2.1 operating system and is available for $190 with month-to-month billing.

Wind’s new BlackBerry promotion allows users to receive a free BlackBerry Pearl 3G device with the purchase of a BlackBerry Bold 9700, so long as both smartphones are activated on the Wind Mobile network. This should be an attractive deal for holiday gift givers, or businesspeople who need separate phones for work and personal use.

Wind Mobile has been in business since December 2009 and, at last count, has approximately 140,000 subscribers in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Vancouver.
