Black Friday is all green for Canadians – Yahoo! Finance

As our dollar continues to flirt with parity against the U.S. greenback, newly empowered Canadian consumers hunting for a deal are once again looking across the border. And they like what they see.

Combine the strong loonie with Black Friday, that uniquely American tradition that kicks off the holiday buying season with blowout retail deals, and 2010 is shaping up to be one of the best seasons for Canadian shoppers in recent memory.

Accordingly to a recent Ipsos Reid survey conducted for Visa Canada, almost 30 per cent of Canadian online shoppers say they’ll likely shop at American online retailers this weekend, an increase of 5 per cent over last year. They’ll also be spending more: $242 per person, up from $226 in 2009.
