A new tech-savvy way to keep you connected at the Library

Boone County Public Library’s latest Live @ the Library concert schedule now includes QR tags. QR (Quick Response) tags are a new kind of bar code that connects almost anything in the real world to information, entertainment, and interactive experiences on a mobile phone.

Users with a camera phone equipped with a tag reader application can scan the image of the QR code to display text, contact information, connect to a wireless network, or open a web page in the phone’s browser. When a tag on BCPL’s Live @ the Library brochure is scanned, it automatically opens a webpage with music samples and more information about one of the library’s featured performers.

Tags can be scanned in the Live @ the Library brochure with a free application called Microsoft Tag Reader. The application can be directly downloaded to a phone from this link: http://gettag.mobi. Microsoft Tag requires an Internet connection to work and the user’s normal data charges apply.

“We’re always excited when we discover new ‘green’ ways to provide information to our customers,” said Library Director Greta Southard. “By embedding tags in our posters, brochures and even our new library cards, we can provide more information in a smaller space and use less paper!”
